Fall-Themed Bilingual Book Recommendations
- “Los Gatos Black on Halloween” by Marisa Montes (English and Spanish)
- A fun and spooky Halloween-themed book, perfect for building vocabulary around the holiday. The rhyming text and colorful illustrations make it engaging for young readers.

Literacy Activities for Language Development
Bilingual Fall Word Hunt // Bilingual Scavenger Hunt
Have a Fun Fall Day and get students up and around the room with a Word Hunt! All you need is a clipboard, pencil, a recording page, and picture vocabulary cards.
Use visuals and place them around the room or home, encouraging kids to say the word in both languages. You could use Flash Cards to place around the room and have students write the words on a paper. Check out the “Read the Room Activity” below.
Seasonal Storytelling
Have children create their own fall-themed stories, either verbally or in writing, using vocabulary from both languages. Teachers can pair up children to write bilingual stories, and parents can help younger children tell stories in both languages.
When you use Fall picture cards for story telling or picture prompt pages for kids to write a story, it can open up their imagination. You can encourage kids to use more vocabulary that way.

Bilingual Book Clubs
As a teacher you can organize a small bilingual book club where students and their families can read a bilingual book together. You can turn it into a family project where kids can have their parents help with a project. An idea for this would be to disguise a ghost after reading “Gustavo, the Shy Ghost” . See the link below to get your Free Copy, print on white card stock and disguise by gluing other materials to it or drawing and coloring a cute disguise!
In the classroom, this can be a group or independent activity. Students can decorate their ghost with materials brought from home or provided by the teacher.
Pumpkin Patch Field Trip
A field trip to a Pumpkin Patch is always a fun idea. You can plan a week of Pumpkin Patch Activities leading up to the field trip. One of those activities could be a Reading Passage about Fun at the Pumpkin Patch.

Bilingual Poetry Writing
Introduce children to simple fall-themed poetry, like acrostic poems or haikus. For example, they can write a haiku about leaves falling, with one line in English and another in Spanish. They could also fill in a word for each letter for the Spanish or English version of Otoño = Fall.
